Tanzania tasks new ambassadors to prioritize national interests

by Joshua Kiziba

Dar es Salaam: THE Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Said Shaib Mussa, has urged newly appointed ambassadors, particularly first-time envoys and those awaiting postings, to prioritize national interests, uphold professionalism, and foster cohesion among the teams they lead.

Speaking at the closing of an orientation program for the envoys held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, Mussa emphasized the importance of discipline in public service and results-oriented leadership in representing Tanzania abroad.

He noted that the training was designed to prepare the ambassadors for their diplomatic responsibilities, with a strong focus on adapting to the rapidly evolving landscape of modern diplomacy and the global economy. According to Mussa, the current environment demands diplomats capable of analyzing opportunities and risks through both strategic and economic lenses.

During the program, participants were equipped with early-detection frameworks to identify high-impact opportunities for the country, enabling them to leverage international platforms effectively and proactively address emerging challenges. They were also reminded of their responsibility to safeguard and advance Tanzaniaโ€™s national interests, while contributing to broader international cooperation.

On his part, Ambassador-designate to Zambia, Cyprian Luhemeja, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed appreciation to the ministry for the training. He stated that the program had provided critical tools to enhance their effectiveness in executing upcoming assignments and affirmed their commitment to applying the guidance they received to advance national priorities.
